SPC event connects prospective college students with solid opportunities to study with SPC and gain professional practical experience with SPC’s industry partners for well-paid local jobs as alumni in a monstrously healthy bevy of multi-billion dollar industries

Rain cannot stop “monsters” of the educational, fun and great jobs kind. Today, St. Philip's College announced a new date for its free 2018 Monster Tech Fest: Sixth Anniversary Edition that connects prospective college students with solid opportunities to study with SPC and gain professional practical experience with SPC’s industry partners for well-paid local jobs as SPC alumni in a healthy bevy of multi-billion dollar industries. The original date was Oct. 19. That date was cancelled. The new date is Nov. 16 from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the college's Southwest Campus at 800 Quintana Road, according to event organizer Manuel Navarro, college middle college programs director, at (210) 486–7015, email mnavarro34@4dian8.com.

Diane Galvan is an academic program specialist in applied science and technology at the college.

"We apologize for any inconvenience, however are sure you appreciate that the safety of the students in this situation was paramount," Galvan stated in an Oct. 17 email notification announcing the event date change as a safety precaution due to risk of rainy weather.

The 2018 lineup includes Michael Alanis, a 24-year-old singer/songwriter from San Antonio, performing live outdoors in his Monster Tech Fest debut for students from Brennan, Burbank, Lanier (Engineering Career Institute), Holmes, Memorial, Sam Houston, South San, Southside, Southwest, Taft and Wagner high schools, George Gervin Academy, River City Christian School and Southwest Preparatory School. The St. Philip’s College Commercial Driver’s License program team is among the 2018 debut exhibitors, bringing in both a 70-foot-long truck and faculty with information on a monstrously large bumper crop of well-paid jobs in their industry. A perennial and popular return guest is Sergio Guerra, a Special FX makeup artist, and former contestant in the Sy-Fy Channel reality series, face off.

St. Philip’s College traditionally hosts 600 high school students at Monster Tech Fest programs. The Halloween-themed program provides high school students the opportunity to make decisions about their futures as they collect college program information from career, technical and STEM education faculty in a fun atmosphere. Held after Halloween this year due to a combination of both weather and rescheduling considerations, the Monster Tech Fest: Sixth Anniversary Edition career and technical education fair lineup includes more than 20 academic programs for students in such lucrative fields as robotics, surgery and automation, plus outdoor fun, food trucks and booths, a car show, live band, DJ entertainment, complimentary group photography, a mobile video game truck and St. Philip's College gear giveaways. The takeaway for prospective college students should be assurances that SPC will provide them with solid opportunities to study with SPC and gain professional practical experience with SPC’s industry partners for well-paid local jobs as SPC alumni in a healthy bevy of multi-billion dollar industries.
